location

The district, which was built around a mill, is located in the Leinetal southeast of Marth and about seven kilometers west of Heilbad Heiligenstadt . In terms of traffic, it is in the triangle of the newly created federal highway 80 to the junction of the federal highway 38 , the state road 3080 and the district road 105, as well as directly on the railway line Halle – Hann. Münden .

history

The background of Gut Hessenau, which was handed down in literature in the 19th century ( v. Wintzingerrode-Knorr ), refers to a deserted Heischehov (also Herschehov ) that was created at the same place . This farm, which was first mentioned in a document in 1327, was closest to the also desolate village of Hunrode on the left bank of the Leine and owned a mill that is still there today as the "Hessenauer Mühle".

The district of Hesenau was owned by the Goldmann family at the end of the 19th century , they had managed the small estate with a sheep farm and farm workers' house. The Hessenauer Mühle, newly built in 1877, was inhabited by the Ernst August Ludwig millers. In April 1932, the body of a young woman from Wüstheuterode was found at the Mühlwehr. According to the police files, she is said to have committed suicide. In the same year a Mr. Haverbeck took over the Hessenau estate. The mill remained in operation until 1956. Up until the 1970s there was a station keeper's house on the Halle-Kassel railway near the estate.
