Life

At the age of 16, Blumenthal discovered fine dining while on vacation in France. He learned his cooking skills himself, bought the 450-year-old pub “The Bell” in the center of Bray in 1995 and renamed it “ The Fat Duck ”. Blumenthal cooks classic French bistro dishes there. In close collaboration with the physics professor Peter Barham from the University of Bristol , he tried to understand the scientific principles of cooking and to apply the foundations in his dishes. He was one of the first chefs to use the principles of molecular cuisine.

In early 2001, Blumenthal took on a six-part television series called Kitchen Chemistry . In the same year his first cookbook, Family Food, was published . 2006 published In Search of Perfection , the companion book to the eponymous BBC - television series in which Blumenthal kitchen classics reinvented. Blumenthal also wrote columns for the Weekend Guardian and the Sunday Times Style Magazine . In 2004 he bought the Hinds Head pub in Bray, where he serves traditional English dishes.

From 2007 to 2008 he changed the menu of the British fast food chain Little Chef and was accompanied by a camera team from Channel 4 . Later, however, all dishes introduced by Blumenthal were removed from the menu again. A spokesman for the chain explained: The problem was that nobody was interested in his dishes, none of them became popular.
