Heterometrus mysorensis is an Indian scorpion fromthe Scorpionidae family .

description

The holotype as the only specimen present at the first description is a 118 millimeter long male animal with a uniform red-brown color. Only the sternum is lighter, and the telson and metatarsi of the legs are reddish yellow. The combs of the comb organ are yellow and have 16 and 17 teeth. The chelae of the Pedipalps are slightly lobed and very hairy. The dorsal surface of the chelae bears a few granules of different sizes arranged in rows. The telson is hairy, with a poisonous bladder as long as the poison sting .

The author of the first description assumed that Heterometrus mysorensis is sexually dimorphic . The male scorpions therefore have longer femora and patella as well as longer and wider chelae on the pedipalps. These assumptions are based on knowledge of other species in the genus Heterometrus .

Heterometrus mysorensis differs from the very similar species Heterometrus phipsoni in that the surface of the chelae is only sparsely covered with granules arranged in rows. In Heterometrus phipsoni they are heavily covered with granules and very uneven, without rows of granules being discernible.

distribution and habitat

The terra typica of Heterometrus mysorensis was given in the first description as India, Mysore, Maddur env., Cca 900 m . This information is contradictory, the city of Mysore is in the district of Mysore , while the small town of Maddur, about 60 kilometers away, is in the district of Mandya . The type locality is probably in the area of Maddur in the Mandya district of the southern Indian state of Karnataka , at an altitude of about 900 meters above sea level ( 12 ° 35 ′ 0 ″  N , 77 ° 3 ′ 0 ″  E ).

Systematics

Initial description

The first description was made by František Kovařík as part of his revision of the genus Heterometrus published in 2004 on the basis of a collection copy. The holotype is a 118 millimeter long adult male, females were not available at the time of description. The holotype, from which it is not known when and by whom it was collected, is in the collection of František Kovařík in Prague.

etymology

According to Kovařík, the species name refers to the state of Mysore as the place where Heterometrus mysorensis occurs . The state of Mysore was dissolved in 1956 with the abolition of the princely states in the Indian state of Mysore, which was renamed Karnataka in 1973.

toxicology

In a study on the regulation of certain ion channels by animal toxins , it was found that the poisons of Heterometrus laoticus and Heterometrus mysorensis have a regulating effect on the ion channel ASIC1a.
