The Heukareck is the local mountain of Schwarzach im Pongau and belongs to the municipality of Sankt Veit im Pongau . The 2100 m above sea level. A. Hohe Berg is located in the south of Schwarzach and is a hill in front of the Höllwand ( 2287 m above sea level ) and the end point of the Gamskarkogel ridge in the Ankogel group .
The mountain can be climbed easily from several sides . From Schwarzach / St. Veit is a fairly steep path over the Herzogalm to the summit. Most of the tours are described from Grossarl (Schied). Here you go over the Niggltalalm (Igltalalm) into the very game-rich Niggltal. Crossing the Heukareck from Schwarzach / St. Veit to Grossarl or vice versa. A first touristic ascent is documented for May 31, 1879 by Ludwig Purtscheller .
Thomas Bernhard wrote in his book Die Kälte - Ein Isolation über den Berg. He describes how the Heukareck casts its shadow continuously over the valley of Schwarzach for four months: "What an infamous horror the creator has come up with here, what a repulsive form of human misery." The hours of sunshine are really rare in Schwarzach in winter.
