The sign “Closed today” adorns the entrance door of the “Schöne Aussicht” restaurant. Employee Nikolaus Plaschke wants to use this free time to try his hand at being a waiter after some practical experience. He also wants to revive his friendship with the chef Paul Moldenhauer. He also flirts with the innkeeper Ilse Meißner. When it is open again the next day, he works as a waiter. But he simply throws out 'uninvited' guests for him, and the restaurant is losing more and more guests.

The film was first broadcast on August 16, 1976 in the first program of East German television . In September 2016 the film was released on DVD by Icestorm as part of the DDR TV Archive series .
