Hexaammine cobalt (III) chloride is a chemical compound from the group of ammine complexes and chlorides . The connection is one of the today by Alfred Werner named Werner complexes , which include also the related Hexaammincobalt (III) nitrate , Hexaammincobalt (II) iodide and Hexaammincobalt (III) iodide belong.
Extraction and presentation
Hexaammine cobalt (III) chloride can be obtained by reacting cobalt (II) chloride hexahydrate with ammonium chloride and ammonia in a stream of air.
properties
Hexaammine cobalt (III) chloride is an orange, wine or brownish red, odorless crystalline solid that is sparingly soluble in water. When boiling in water, cobalt (II) hydroxide is formed . At temperatures above 215 ° C, decomposition occurs with release of ammonia. The compound was discovered by Citoyen Tassaert in 1798 .
use
Hexaammine cobalt (III) chloride is used in biochemistry.
