Witch brutes
The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.
As a witch-boletes are some fungal species from the family of Dickröhrlingsverwandten referred. Common to all species are the red tube mouths or pores and the flesh, which turns blue on contact with air . The group is not a systematic taxon .
Surname
The name of the group comes from the blue color of the flesh , which shows the fruiting bodies when pressed or when cut. It used to be believed that this process had something to do with witchcraft . In fact, this process is caused by the oxidation of certain ingredients in the mushrooms. But also other boletus, which do not have the name Hexen-Röhrling , have flesh that turns blue when pressed, but usually do not reach the intensity of the Hexen-Röhrling. These include, for example, the chestnut bolet or the Satan's bolet . On the other hand, the black- blue bolete ( Cyanoboletus pulverulentus ), the cornflower bolete ( Gyroporus cyanescens ), the blue-spotted purple bolete ( Imperator rhodopurpureus ) and the ox bolete ( Imperator torosus ) show very strong discoloration .
