Hias was the stage name of Erich Mathias Mayer (born November 3, 1950 in Johnsbach , Styria , † July 7, 2007 in Donnersbach , Styria), an Austrian singer, humorist and accordion player . In German-speaking, he was a wide audience through regular appearances on the show Musikantenstadl as a sidekick of Karl Moik known.
Life
Mayer grew up on the Erbsattel near Kassegg Castle in Styria . At the age of twelve he lost his teeth in an accident. He began with grimacing and soon became known as the dumb bard. First he performed with a friend as a duo Ruap and Hias , later with the Fidelen Köflachern and the Ennstal musicians . With the Ligister Trio and the title "Over Laurenziberg" he got an appearance in 1981 in the Musikantenstadl with Karl Moik . The performance was such a great success that "Hias" appeared regularly on this program until 1991, when "Urvieh der Nation" was joking and mostly sang new songs.
In 1990 “Hias” took part in the Austrian Grand Prix of Folk Music , but with his title “What makes a parrot in an solarium” only achieved the last place in the preliminary decision. In addition to funny mood hits, he has also recorded well-known folk songs and Viennese songs .
Together with the quintet Sepp Mattlschweiger's Juchee , “Hias” was on stage for years and right up to the end. He was considered a virtuoso on the Styrian harmonica .
On July 7, 2007, the artist committed suicide with his hunting rifle in his apartment in Donnersbach a few hours before a planned performance with the Ligister Trio in Upper Austria. The funeral service for him took place on July 12, 2007 in the presence of several hundred people in his home town of Donnersbach, his urn was later buried in the family circle.
Mayer was married from 1974 to 2005 and had four daughters with his divorced wife.
