Hibberdene is a city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is located in the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality in the Ugu District . The city is at sea level. In 2011 it had 4,037 inhabitants. It was named after the Minister of Post, Natals C. Maxwell-Hibberd, who bought a farm here after his retirement around 1900. The city lies on the Umzimai River.

Hibberdene is right on the coast between Scottburgh and Port Shepstone . It is located 97 kilometers south of Durban .

Hibberdene is one of the most popular holiday resorts in South Africa, as the warm Indian Ocean is ideal for swimming as well as diving and snorkeling. Various reefs are home to rare species, such as the long-snouted coral guardian , special soft corals and sponges . The black sea fan is endemic to Hibberdene . There are also wildlife parks and bird watching opportunities.
