The Hichtenbach is an approximately 2.3 km long right tributary of the Sauer in the Bas-Rhin department and in the southern Palatinate .

The Hichtenbach rises at an altitude of about 298  m in the Northern Vosges northeast of the Col de Hichtenbach directly on the German-French border. It flows northeast on the southeast slope of the Hichtenberg about 700 m along the border, then crosses it towards Germany and finally flows north of Hirschthal at an altitude of 205  m above sea level. NN in the Saarbach .

nature

The Hichtenbachtal is a species-rich biotope with rare animal and plant species. Tall herb corridors , wetlands and Sedge alternate with sheep pasture grazing and meadow orchards .
