description

Leaves of Hieracium albiflorum

Hieracium albiflorum is an herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 15 to 90 centimeters. The upright stems are usually fine and coarse with 1 to 6 millimeter long hairs, more rarely also bald. The base of the stem is bare.

At the base of the stem there are three to eight, occasionally more or no basal leaves , while one to twelve leaves branch off from the stem. The leaf blade is formed upside-lanceolate at a length of 4 to 30 centimeters and a width from 1.2 to 6 centimeters. The base of the spreader is wedge-shaped while the tip of the spreader tapers to a point and the edges of the spreader are usually whole, but occasionally also toothed. Both the top and the bottom of the leaves are covered with fine, rough hairs 1 to 6 millimeters long, but they can also be bald.

The flowering period extends from May to September. The total inflorescences consist of three to fifty schirmrispen- or ripsenartig arranged, cup-shaped part inflorescences. The inflorescence shaft is usually hairless, but occasionally also covered with glandular hair. The more or less bell-shaped involucre contains 8 to 18 hairy bracts on the underside , which are 7 to 11 millimeters long. The flower heads contain 6 to 25 yellow ray-florets , which are 9 to 10 millimeters long. The achenes are columnar with a length of 2.5 to 4 millimeters. They have a papus , which is composed of 30 to 40 straw-colored bristle hairs.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
