description

Vegetative characteristics

Hieracium crepidispermum is an herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 25 to 100 centimeters. The upright stems are covered with fine and coarse 0.3 to 0.6 cm long hair and have glandular and star-like hairy bases.

At the base of the stem there are two to eight, sometimes more basal leaves , while there are no or up to four or more leaves on the stem. The leaf blade is at a length of from 3 to 8.5 centimeters and a width from 1.6 to 3.5 centimeters elliptical to reversed-lanceolate with wedge-shaped to Columnar comprehensive Spreitenbasis and blunt or tapered Spreitenspitze. The spreading margins are whole or serrated. Both the underside and the upper side of the leaf are covered with fine and rough hairs 0.1 to 0.2 centimeters long.

Generative characteristics

The flowering time is in September. The more or less panicle-like total inflorescence usually contains 8 to 25, occasionally more cup-shaped partial inflorescences. The inflorescence shaft is hairy glandular. With a diameter of 0.7 to 0.9 centimeters, the bell-shaped involucre contains 13 to 18, occasionally more on the underside, glandular hairy bracts with a more or less rounded to pointed tip. The flower heads contain 25 to 40 ray-flowers. The white to pale yellow ray florets are 0.8 to 0.9 inches long.

The achenes are jug-shaped with a length of 3.5 to 4.5 millimeters. The pappus consists of 45 to 60 white or straw-colored bristle hairs, which are 0.5 to 0.55 centimeters long.

Occurrence

The natural range of Hieracium crepidispermum is in the southern USA and Mexico. It includes the US states of Arizona and New Mexico .

Hieracium crepidispermum thrives at altitudes of 2200 to 2500 meters in water-rich locations along rivers.
