description

Vegetative characteristics

Hieracium korshinskyi is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 60 centimeters. The upright, slightly purple to red stems are mostly branched in the upper part, rarely unbranched. They are densely shaggy hairy at the base and covered with fine star-like or cobweb-like hairs at the top.

At the base of the stem there are several basal stalked leaves which fall off after the flowering period, while on the lower stem there are also several short-stalked to sessile, more or less stem-encompassing leaves. The petiole, if any, is winged. The leaf blade is elliptical to lanceolate with a length of 6 to 16 centimeters and a width of 1 to 6 centimeters with a tapering to wedge-shaped base and a blunt or tapering blade tip. The spreading margins are more or less whole and have some sharply defined teeth. Both the underside and the upper side of the leaf are sparsely covered with shaggy hair.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period and fruit ripening extend, at least in China, from July to September. The panicle-like total inflorescence contains one to two cup-shaped partial inflorescences. The bell-shaped with a diameter of about 0.6 centimeters involucrum contains three rows of dark green and sparsely hairy at the bottom bracts . The outer bracts are about 3.5 millimeters long and about 0.5 millimeters wide, linear-lanceolate to broadly linear, while the inner bracts are about 9 millimeters long and 1.2 millimeters wide. The flower heads contain several yellow ray-florets .

The purple to purple-black achenes are cylindrical with a length of about 0.32 centimeters and have ten ribs. The pappus consists of several dirty white over pale yellow to brownish bristle hairs, which are about 0.6 inches long.

Chromosome set

The basic chromosome number is x = 9; there is diploidy or triploidy with chromosome numbers 2n = 18 or 27.

Occurrence

The natural range of Hieracium korshinskyi is in Central Asia . It includes Kazakhstan , Mongolia , the southern part of central Russia and the Chinese province of Xinjiang .

Taxonomy

It was first described as Hieracium korshinskyi in 1922 by Karl Hermann Zahn in Adolf Engler's Das Pflanzenreich , number 4, page 280. A synonym for Hieracium korshinskyi Zahn is Crepis shawanensis C.Shih .
