Hieronymus Payer (born February 13, 1787 in Meidling ; † August 17, 1845 there ) was an Austrian composer and pianist .

Life

Hieronymus Payer was the son of a teacher. As a 10-year-old he earned his living as a substitute musician and was then employed by his father as an assistant teacher. In 1806 he became Kapellmeister in the Meidlinger Sommertheater , for which he even wrote little singspiele . He later moved to the inner city and made music successfully in the Redoutensaal and the Theater an der Wien . He was also active as a pedagogue, for example as the teacher of Leopoldine Blahetka .

In 1821 Payer first presented the Physharmonica in a public concert in Vienna . Three years later he went to Amsterdam as Kapellmeister to the Hoogduitse Schouwburg and in 1825 to Paris . In 1832 he returned to Vienna and was the predecessor of Conradin Kreutzer for a short time as Kapellmeister in the Theater in der Josefstadt .

As a pianist, contemporaries compared Payer to Johann Nepomuk Hummel , Ignaz Moscheles and Ferdinand Ries .
