Hilë Mosi
Hilë Mosi (born April 22, 1885 in Shkodra ; died February 22, 1933 in Tirana ) was an Albanian poet , publicist , editor , politician and political activist of the Albanian national movement .
Life
Hilë Mosi was born in Shkodra, where she attended an Italian school and later the Saverian College (Kolegji Saverian) , a Jesuit secondary school . He then studied from 1904 to 1908 at a teacher training college in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee . During this time, Mosi met the linguist Georg Pekmezi , under whose influence he was involved in building the patriotic Albanian student organization Lirija (Freedom) .
In April 1908 Mosi returned to Albania and worked as secretary at the Monastir Congress . After living in Korça for some time , he began to publish the newspaper Shqipëtari-Arnavud (The Albanian) with Dervish Hima towards the end of 1909 . In 1911 Mosi took an active part in an uprising in northern Albania that broke out in Kosovo in 1910 and was directed against the rule of the Ottoman Empire . He also took part in the Albanian Congress of Trieste in March 1913 and then founded the newspaper Shqypnia e re (New Albania) in Shkodra .
In 1916 Mosi was a member of the “Albanian Literary Commission” (Komisja Letra Re Shqype) , which was set up by the Austro-Hungarian authorities to create binding regulations for the use of the Albanian language in official use and for teaching in schools. In November 1920 he was a member of the Albanian delegation to the League of Nations . From 1920 to 1924 Mosi sat in parliament for the constituency of Shkodra . He was also appointed Minister of Education in 1921, but never seems to have assumed that post.
Under the government of Fan Noli in 1924, Mosi was prefect of Korça and Gjirokastra until he had to flee to Brindisi due to Ahmet Zogu's takeover . He returned to Albania in 1927 after an amnesty by Zogu and became Minister of Public Affairs. From 1928 Mosi was the head of the Public Security Authority.
In 1930 Mosi was appointed Minister of Education, which he eventually remained until his death in 1933.
Literary work
From 1900 to 1925 Hilë Mosi worked as a poet of patriotic verses and love poetry, which were mainly published in magazines and books of poetry with small editions. His volume of poetry Lotët e dashtnies (Tears of Love) , published in 1916, contained love poems - he was one of the first poets, along with Andon Zako Çajupi and Aleksandër Stavre Drenova , to write love rhymes in Albanian, which was unheard of and shocking for the Albanian public at the beginning of the 20th century . The second edition of his collection of poems was therefore published under the more discreet title Lule prendvere (Flowers of Spring) . In this edition Mosi also included some translations of love poems by foreign authors to show that they are a respected literary genre .
