Hilary Simons

Hilarius Simons (born November 22, 1927 in Munster ) is a German businessman and equestrian sports official . He was the doyen of eventing (military riding) in Germany.

Life

Hilarius Simons grew up in a Catholic family. In 1930 the family moved to Bielefeld; he attended the municipal high school in Bielefeld and was deployed in 1944 as an anti-aircraft helper in Bielefeld and in the Ruhr area. After the end of the war, he first completed a commercial, then a chemical-technical apprenticeship. In 1945 he joined the CDU . He studied economics in Münster and worked as a self-employed businessman.

From 1969 to 1985 he was chairman of the eventing committee of the German Olympic Committee for Horse Riding (DOKR) and head of the equipe of the German eventing teams at the Olympic Games in Munich (1972) , Montreal (1976) and Los Angeles (1984) . Since 1973 he has been involved in the Rotary Club Bielefeld.

For more than 15 years he was an honorary executive board member of the German Rider and Driver Association (DRFV), and has been its advisory board member since 2001. He was chairman of the bush riders in the Warendorf Olympic Committee. In 2002 he was the founding board member of the Westphalian “Friends of Versatility”.

Together with the Westphalian association president Ernst-August Delius, he initiated the cross-country horse tests for the first time in 1983 .

Hilarius Simons is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1972 Hilarius Simons was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fürstenberg and on December 9, 1972 in the Aachen Imperial Cathedral by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy, and Hermann Josef Abs , Lieutenant in Germany, invested. He is an officer of the order.

Simons is married to Irmela; the marriage resulted in five children.
