Hilary of Sexten

Hilarius von Sexten , born Christian Gatterer , also Catterer (born December 15, 1839 in Sexten , South Tyrol , † October 20, 1899 in Meran ) was an Austrian Capuchin and moral theologian .

Life

Hilarius joined the Capuchin Order in the North Tyrolean province on August 19, 1858 , where he was ordained priest in 1862 . In 1882 he graduated from the Synod of the Diocese of Trento (South Tyrol). From 1889 he was provincial in Tyrol and held the chair for moral theology in Merano for 25 years.

In 1892 he resigned his office as provincial in order to complete his work Compendium theologiae moralis in 1889 , which he continued with the work Tractatus pastoralis (1895). His moral theological dissertation on Pope Hilarius († 468) was published in the Linz quarterly publication. He died in 1899 in the monastery of Merano.
