Hilary Szpilowski (* 1753 ; † March 10, 1827 ) was a Polish architect and as such a representative of classicism and neo-Gothic . He worked mainly in Mazovia , was a builder here and a university lecturer in Warsaw .

Life

Little is known about his origins, presumably he came from the Szpilowski family in what was then Powiat Rzeczycki . In 1780 he gave up his work as a guard at JW Mierzejewski and began to work under the architect Stanisław Zawadzki in Warsaw with a contract dated January 16, 1781 . In 1782 it was registered with a Warsaw address. In 1783, before the military administration, he accused Zawadzki of creating false designs for the construction of the barracks of Kamieniec Podolski .

From this incident on, Spilkowski worked independently. On April 17, 1785 he received his diploma as a Warsaw architect. From 1807 he worked in the city administration (Polish: Izba Administracyjna Departamentu Warszawskiego ) and held a position as an assessor in the construction department. In 1810, Duke Friedrich August appointed him the department's builder. During the congress of Poland he was also a voivodeship builder of Mazovia. From 1817 to 1823 he worked as a professor at the University of Warsaw . In 1824 his work was published: Wzory kościołów parafialnych po województwach Królestwa Polskiego stawać się mających .

Hilary Spilkowski was the father of Sylwester Szpilowski. He was buried in the Świętokrzyski Cemetery in Warsaw.

Buildings (selection)

These include the palaces in Walewice, Mała Wieś, Luberadz, Rudno or Staroźreby. He also designed churches and town halls in Mazovia, such as in Piaseczno , Warka , Zaborów, Lipków, Grabowo, Suserz, Grójec , Mogielnica and Gostynin.

In Warsaw he wrote:
