This fell in the last days of World War II. She completed a commercial apprenticeship in Mainz. In addition, she secretly took lessons from the Mainz actress Anni Peters. She repeatedly invited directors so that her students could audition. So Krost got her first engagement as Gretchen in Urfaust on the stage in Trier .

She was married to the freelance painter Pitt Cuerlis, who died in 2008, a student of Georges Braque and Marc Chagall .

From 1998 to 2014 she played in several episodes of the series Aktenzeichen XY ... unsolved .

In the 2012/13 season she was seen at the Regensburg City Theater in the role of grandmother Rosmarie in Dea Loher's “The Last Fire”. In 2013, she gave a reading there on the 50th anniversary of Cocteau's death. She had met Cocteau personally in Paris .

Krost seems to be taking an example from Tilla Durieux - based on her book title: “My first 90 years…”. Regarding the stage version of Christoph Hein's “Tilla” - she says: “I was totally fascinated by Tilla; also because of some similarities. Tilla Durieux was married to Paul Cassirer , the famous art dealer and promoter of Impressionism. My husband was the freelance painter, Pitt Cuerlis, a student of Braque and Chagall. That's why I can put myself in the place of Tilla very well. ”Hildegard Krost performed“ Tilla ”in 2014 at the Regensburg City Theater.

“… Hildegard Krost, one of the great old ladies in her field, plays - no, she is - the Durieux in this psychogram of an amour fou, which alternates between wit and wisdom,” writes the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

70 years after her theatrical debut, she is back on stage in a “Faust” production at the Regensburg City Theater . She plays several roles here: the appropriation, the witch, the Baucis and Gretchen's thoughts in the cathedral.

In a portrait of Hildegard Krost, Bettina Weber, editor of the magazine Die Deutsche Bühne, wrote in April 2016: “That she is still on the stage is anything but self-evident - but those who experience her there will quickly understand why. In Faust she plays her scenes confidently, powerfully, to the point. Your emotional charge of the Baucis is touching. You can feel how Hildegard Krost thought into the text and connected it to the present. - During the applause, Hildegard Krost is enthusiastically cheered by the mostly young audience. It may be because she still knows how to effectively transport the old texts into the present day. "
