Hildegardia is a genus from the subfamily of the sterculioideae (Sterculioideae) in the family of the Malvaceae (Malvaceae).

description

Hildegardia species are trees . They have thin, broadly oval leaves that are completely or slightly lobed and heart-shaped at the bottom.

There are both species with hermaphrodite and unisexual flowers. Terminal, racemose inflorescences are formed. The four to five mostly reddish sepals are fused in a tubular shape and remain until the fruit is ripe. As with the other species of the tribe, the petals of the flowers are completely absent . The ten to 15 stamens and the five carpels sit on an androgynophore .

Hildegardia species differ from others of the tribe by their fruits , which are surrounded by a thin, membranous shell that remains closed when the fruit is ripe.

The genus is spread pantropically, although the individual species are not pantropical, but come from different regions.
