Hiltrud Werner

Hiltrud Dorothea Werner (born April 16, 1966 in Bad Doberan ) is a German manager and executive . Since February 1, 2017, she has been responsible for the Integrity and Legal Affairs division on the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG .

Professional background

Hiltrud Werner's father was a deacon . She grew up in Bad Doberan and from 1971 in Apolda and completed her training as a skilled worker for textile technology in Mühlhausen / Thuringia in 1985 with a high school diploma and initially worked as a skilled worker for textile technology.

She then studied at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg Mathematical methods and data processing in business and received in 1989 a degree in Diploma - Economist .

After completing her studies , she began her professional career in 1991 as a project manager for process optimization at Softlab GmbH in Munich . In 1996 she moved to BMW AG . There she completed an international management trainee program and then worked at BMW Bank GmbH as a department head. In 2000 she switched to corporate auditing and in 2003 took over the management of the BMW audit department for Great Britain and Ireland with global responsibility for the brands Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and MINI . After returning from the UK in 2008, she became Head of Corporate Audit Financial Services.

As of 2011, she was responsible for auditing at MAN SE as Chief Audit Executive ; in 2014 she moved to ZF Friedrichshafen AG and took over the management of auditing.

On January 1, 2016, Hiltrud Werner took over the management of Group Audit at Volkswagen AG .

From February 1, 2017, she was appointed to the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Integrity and Legal Division. In this role she followed Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt .

Hiltrud Werner has been a member of the Audi AG Supervisory Board since 2017 . In 2018 she took on additional supervisory board mandates at the corporate brands Porsche AG and Seat SA as well as the Traton Group , under which the truck division of Volkswagen is combined with the brands MAN and Scania .

As part of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Hiltrud Werner is responsible for the Integrity and Legal Division. She is responsible for topics such as compliance organization, risk management, data protection, corporate governance and integrity management worldwide. Hiltrud Werner is the only woman on the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG and the first East German.

Hiltrud Werner is married and has two grown children.

According to her own statements, her origin from East Germany played an important role for her. When she moved to West Germany after reunification , she was exposed to open hostilities because of her origins. For her decision to work full-time as the only mother in a company with 850 employees in her first job in West Germany, she often received incomprehension.

Hiltrud Werner advocates diversity and the empowerment of women in companies. She calls for equality and equal pay.

She is part of the Women Leaders Global Forum and appears regularly as a speaker at various discussion forums, such as B. at Gender & Tech. New ideas for a more diverse future for the Goethe-Institut .

As part of the Women Corporate Directors in the 2019 Thought Leadership Commission, she is committed to greater diversity at board level.

Hiltrud Werner was speaker at the Fortune Most Powerful Women International Summit in London in 2019 .
