Himanshu Gulati (born June 16, 1988 in Førde ) is a Norwegian politician of the right-wing Fremskrittspartiet (FrP). From October 2013 to September 2017 he was State Secretary and has been a member of the Storting since then .

Life

Himanshu Gulati was born in Førde and lived in Lavik , Høyanger Municipality , until he was nine years old . His parents are from India . He missed entry into the Norwegian national parliament in Storting in both the 2009 general election and the 2013 election . From 2012 to 2014 he was chairman of the youth organization Fremskrittspartiets Ungdom (FpU). On October 16, 2013, he was appointed State Secretary in the newly formed Solberg government and Gulati worked in the Justice and Readiness Ministry until October 2014. At the time of his appointment, he was the government's youngest state secretary and was given responsibility for immigration and integration. On October 17, 2014, he moved to the Statsministerens kontor , the Prime Minister's office , as State Secretary . He stayed there until September 30, 2017.

He then became a Member of Parliament in Storting after winning a mandate for the Akershus constituency in the parliamentary elections on September 11, 2017 . He became a member of Parliament's Justice Committee and moved to the Family and Culture Committee in January 2020.

In January 2019 he was honored by Ram Nath Kovind , the President of India, with the Diaspora Prize Pravasi Bharatiya Samman .

Positions

Gulati advocates that all religious communities should not receive any support from tax money. Payments should only be made for the maintenance of the buildings. He stated that taxpayers would not have to fund other citizens' beliefs and that self-financing would generate greater engagement.

When he was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, he said that a faster extradition of criminal asylum seekers was planned. In June 2014, in his role as State Secretary, he traveled to the Eritrean capital Asmara , where he negotiated the repatriation of 500 rejected asylum seekers.
