The raspberry glass winged butterfly ( Pennisetia hylaeiformis ) is a butterfly from the family of the glass winged winged wing (Sesiidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 18 to 31 millimeters and have brown front wings. These are characterized by a narrow, transparent wedge field and a small, three-cell outer glass field. The veins M3 and Cu1 of the hind wings are long stalked. The antennae are bristle-shaped and double-comb-toothed in the males. The proboscis has receded. The thorax is colored black in front of the wings. The yellow rings on the abdomen are each the same width. The Juxta is large and tubular. In females, the post-vaginal lamella is wide and sclerotized . The ductus bursae is twisted like a spiral.

The caterpillars are whitish and have a black head.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in Eurasia , it can be found in central , northern and parts of southern Europe . It is not represented in the British Isles . The species inhabits forest edges and clearings as well as river banks with stocks of raspberries.

Way of life

The host plant of the raspberry glass winged bird is the raspberry ( Rubus idaeus ), where the larvae live in the roots for about two years. They pupate in May in the stem of the host plant close to the ground.

Flight and caterpillar times

One generation of the raspberry glass winged flies from June to August, in Central Europe from mid-June to mid-August. The moths are diurnal, but avoid the midday heat.

Parasitoids

Parasitoids of the larvae of Himbeerglasflüglers various parasitic wasps - (Ichneomonidae) and brackish species of wasps (Braconidae) as Liotryphon punctulatus , Apanteles glomeratus , Ipobracon triangularis , Lissanota Impressor , Lissanota pimplator , Bracon erraticus and Macrocentrus marginator .

Systematics

Nothing is currently known about the relationship to the North American species Pennisetia marginata (Harris, 1839).
