Hinder [ ˈhɪndə ] is a five-piece American post-grunge rock band from Oklahoma City .
history
The band was formed in July 2001 when songwriter and singer Winkler was playing a jam session with chance acquaintances Garvey and Hanson . They played together for three years until King and Rodden joined in 2004 and they made their first recordings at their own expense. With their first promising EP, Far from Close , they quickly got a record deal with Universal and in 2005 their first album Extreme Behavior was released . After bad reviews at the beginning, the album became a commercial success in that it reached double platinum in the US with approximately two million copies sold a year after its release .
During that year, not only did their popularity grow on radio stations, but their notoriety rose through performances and tours with many well-known rock bands such as Nickelback , Hoobastank , Staind and Aerosmith .
The first single Get Stoned was only a minor hit in the US rock charts, but their ultimate breakthrough came with the song Lips of an Angel . After number one in the pop and download sections of the US charts, the song climbed to number 3 in the official Top 100. In Australia and New Zealand, the song went straight to the top of the singles charts.
In early 2013, singer Austin Winkler went into rehab and was replaced by Jared Weeks ( Saving Abel ) during the US tour . In November 2013, the band announced that Winkler was no longer a member of the band. Then Nolan Neal was tested as a new front man. With him, Hinder released the single Hit the Ground . At the same time, the new album When the Smoke Clears was announced for spring 2015. Marshal Dutton was finally announced as the final front man through the official Facebook page. The single Rather Than Hurt is the first with Dutton.
