particularities Mountain station of the gondola lift of the Pitztaler Gletscherbahn and cafe near the summit

The Hintere Brunnenkogel ( 3438  m above sea level ) is a summit in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol and is located approx. 900 m north-northwest of the Mittelbergjoch. To the north is the Vordere Brunnenkogel ( 3396  m above sea level ).

Since the construction of the second section of the Pitztaler Gletscherbahn , the Hintere Brunnenkogel has been easily accessible by cable car. The mountain station was built close to the summit, making this gondola the highest in Austria. The "Café 3.440", which is attached to the mountain station, is considered the highest café in Austria. There is also a viewing platform on the summit, from which a comprehensive overview of the Ötztal Alps is offered. The mountain also offers a good view of the north side of the Wildspitze, three kilometers to the south .

An automatic weather station from ZAMG is located at a height of 3429  m between the cafe and the highest point. Their measured values are constantly available on the ZAMG website. It is by far the highest ZAMG measuring station (the next lower station at 3114 m above sea level on the Sonnblick ). The −30 ° C mark was once again fallen below on February 27, 2018 with −32.4 ° C after six years.
