Johann Hieronymus von Wedig also: Johann Hieronymus de Wedig, Dewedig; (* August 22, 1665 in Halle (Saale) ; † June 18, 1712 in Wittenberg ) was a German educator and Lutheran theologian.

Life

The son of the senior at the Schöppenstuhl , as well as assessors of the salt works in Halle Dr. Thomas de Wedig (* 1625 Halle; † 22 May 1702 in Halle) and his wife Catharina, had attended the grammar school in his hometown in 1675 after adequate basic training. After ten years of training, he moved to the University of Wittenberg on June 25, 1685 . In order to complete an advanced theology course, he first attended the lectures at the philosophical faculty. He is likely to have attended the lectures in poetry with Theodor Dassow , in ethics with Christian Röhrensee , Greek with Konrad Samuel Schurzfleisch , philosophy with Johann Christoph Wichmannshausen , logic with Christian Donati and rhetoric with Georg Wilhelm Kirchmaier . With an excellent education, he acquired the academic degree of Magister in Philosophical Sciences on October 12, 1686 .

In Wittenberg he concentrated on an academic career, gave private lectures and was finally accepted on May 1, 1690 as an adjunct to the faculty of philosophy. Since progress in the university business was not visible, he took a position as high school professor for rhetoric and ethics at the Illustre high school in Weißenfels in 1691 . Wedig, who had always aspired to a theological office, was ordained after three and a half years on December 22, 1695 for the office of a deacon in Wittenberg. With the resignation of his official colleagues in 1699 he rose to the third diaconate, was second deacon of the Wittenberg town church in 1700 and became archdeacon there in 1704 . As such, he received his doctorate on April 22, 1705 as a licentiate in theology, which he remained until the end of his life.

His first marriage was in Wittenberg on October 20, 1692 with Christiana Elisabeth (* October 8, 1672 in Wittenberg, † May 31, 1707 ibid), the daughter of Konstantin Ziegra and Maria Christiana (née Dalichow).
