The rear Mönchsberg is 500.3 m above sea level. NHN high, wooded mountain in the west of the Spalter hill country in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . It is one of the highest elevations in the Haundorf Forest .

The wooded Hintere Mönchsberg rises in the north of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district near the border with the Ansbach district . To the southeast lie Ober- and Unterhöhberg . The Höhberg rises to the southeast and the Mönchsberg to the south . To the north of the mountain is the northernmost point of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district.

The Hintere Mönchsberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land (No. 11), in the main unit Middle Franconian Basin (113) and in the sub-unit Spalter Hügelland (113.4) to the natural area of the Southern Spalter Hügelland (113.40).
