The parish church of St. Genesius is a Roman Catholic sacred building in the municipality of Wengen ( La Val in Ladin ) in South Tyrol . It stands in the middle of the village and is dedicated to Saint Genesius of Rome . It was built from 1868 to 1874 according to plans by the architect Josef von Stadl . It replaced the old parish church of St. Genesius , the ruins of which are a little higher above the village.

Building description

The church, built in historicizing forms, is a nave building with a transept . The church tower is built on the side in the north. The portal is like many other details neuromanisch designed to Langhaus- and transept walls arched windows are used. The nave is divided by three bays , the transept by two each. The ceilings of the nave and choir have stitch cap vaults . The wall paintings on the nave ceiling , in the crossing , in the transept arms and in the choir, composed by the Nazarene , were made by Max Gehri from Innsbruck in the 1890s. A special feature of the church furnishings are the baroque wooden sculptures by Dominikus Moling ; These include St. John Nepomuk floating on clouds, a floating angel at the pulpit and a Madonna standing on clouds .
