Parish Church of the Holy Family

Holy Family is a Catholic parish church in Bremen . The church named after the Holy Family is located in the Grohn district , on Grohner Markt. It is the youngest church in the Dean's Office Bremen-Nord and one of the last new church buildings in the Hildesheim diocese . Around 6,200 Catholics belong to your parish of the same name (as of 2014).

history

The previous building was erected in 1903, it also bore the patronage of the Holy Family and was located at Färberstraße 3. This church, built by Richard Herzig , was designed as a neo-Gothic brick church with a roof turret , and has since been demolished. Catholic parish registers have been kept at the Church of the Holy Family since 1906 . On April 1, 1914, the Catholic parish of Grohn was set up, and on November 30, 1918 it was elevated to a parish.

In 1977 planning began for a new church, as the previous church had become too small and dilapidated. The present church was built in 1986/87, and on September 26, 1987 it was consecrated by Bishop Josef Homeyer .

On November 1, 2006, the parish of the Holy Family was also joined by the Bremen churches of St. Peter and Paul and St. Willehad , whose parishes were abolished in this context. These three parishes had previously formed a pastoral care unit . In 2011 and 2012 the churches of St. Willehad and St. Peter and Paul were profaned .

Architecture and equipment

The church, located around 14 meters above sea level , was built according to plans by the Bremen architects Veit Heckrott and Franz G. Hopf. An earlier design by Gottfried Böhm was not implemented. In the center of the church building is the church service room, around it the parish rooms and the parish apartment are grouped. Heinz Lilienthal created 48 windows with biblical motifs.
