The Hochgernhaus is a privately run refuge at 1461  m above sea level. NHN Höhe on the southwest side of the Hochgern around 1300 meters as the crow flies west of the summit in the area of ​​the Weitalm . It is located in the Chiemgau Alps in the municipality of Unterwössen in the Upper Bavarian district of Traunstein . The Hochgernhaus is a well-known and popular excursion destination with its view of the Kaiser Mountains . The Hochgern ( 1750  m ) is one of the best panoramic mountains in the Chiemgau Alps with a view of the Chiemsee , the foothills of the Alps and, on foehn days, as far as the central Alps . The shelter is open all year round and offers a break in every season, in summer on a mountain hike and in winter on a ski tour . If the conditions are suitable, the hut path from Marquartstein will be cleared so that you can walk up to the hut and go down with a toboggan . For mountaineers, the Hochgernhaus is an important base on larger tours through the Chiemgau Alps and on the Königssee-Bodensee long-distance hiking trail, the Maximiliansweg .
