The Straussfurt flood retention basin is located near Straussfurt in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia . It was initially a so-called "green basin" and only held back the water of the Unstrut during floods . Other purposes are industrial water supply and nature conservation.
dam
The barrier structure is an earth dam . It consists of two zones, a water-side sealing body made of Keuper marl and an air-side support body made of gravel . On the water side , it is also covered by an asphalt concrete layer . The dam has a 91 m long concrete relief structure. The flood relief consists of a 270 m long slope overflow with a 200 m long channel. The flood retention basin is operated by the Thuringian long-distance water supply .
