Henschleben is a district of the Straußfurt community in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia . Until December 30, 2019, Henschleben was an independent municipality that belonged to the Straussfurt administrative community.

Henschleben is located in the Thuringian Basin on the Unstrut , immediately south of the Straussfurt retention basin .

history

The place Henschleben was first mentioned in a document around 1080. In that year the battle on the Mordäckern between Henschleben and Straussfurt took place between the troops of King Heinrich IV and the opposing king Rudolf von Rheinfelden , which the latter lost. Until 1815, Henschleben and Vehra belonged to the Electoral Saxon office of Eckartsberga as exclaves . Village church

In April 1945 there were American low-level aircraft attacks and artillery fire in Henschleben, which set fire to several buildings. After the occupation change to the Red Army in July 1945, rape and theft occurred.

The manor Stödten (southeast of Schwerstedt) , owned by the Barons von Ballhausen, was located northwest of Henschleben above the Unstrut Valley . From 1944 it served as accommodation for refugee families and was completely removed during the Soviet Zone and GDR . Today there is only a walled-in cellar opening as a bat refuge on a small slope at the northwest corner of the Unstrut reservoir.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality Vehra was incorporated. On December 31, 2019, the community of Henschleben was dissolved and incorporated into Straussfurt .

In December 2010 the community had 373 inhabitants, including 220 Henschleben and 153 Vehra.

Municipal council

The local council from Henschleben consisted of four members of the Free Voters Henschleben and two members of the Unstrut-Aue voter community (status: local election on May 25, 2014).

The last honorary mayor, Frank Knaak, prevailed in the runoff election on April 29, 2018 against Sören Oeftinger (Unstrut-Aue community of voters) with 107 votes to 99.

During the Second World War , 25 women and men from Poland had to do forced labor in agriculture.
