The Hofbachstadion is the second largest stadium facility in the Siegen city area and is located in the Geisweid district . The facility has 10,000 places. It is also one of only two natural grass sports fields in the city and the only one to which a tartan track is attached.
The two straights of the grandstand provide the spectators with concrete steps with breakwaters. Both curves are green, one of which is interrupted by a marathon gate, which is accessible above. Some of the standing steps on both straights were renewed a few years ago. There are also a few rows of screwed-on rows of seats on the partially covered side. For athletes , the facility offers the tartan track, among other things, a pole vault , a hammer throw cage and a long jump facility . A tennis court with artificial turf is attached to the lawn .
history
Construction of the sports facility began in 1970, initially with an ash area with space for around 7,000 spectators. The stadium was inaugurated on September 15, 1974.
use
Since its construction, the facility has mainly been used by VfL Klafeld-Geisweid 08 . However, the club's first team is only entitled to one training session on the pitch per week. In addition, the current district league team also plays its home games there, provided that the weather conditions permit. The second team, as well as the youth teams, play and train on the Tennenplatz without exception.
Another user of the facility is the Sportfreunde Siegen . The first team uses the grass pitch for training. If there are bottlenecks in the space occupancy at the facility in the Leimbachtal, the second men's team and the first women's team will also play their home games there. The Klafelder then have to move to the Tennenplatz.
The multiple German champions TSV Siegen also played their home games here. In July 1975, the Hofbachstadion hosted a game of a Siegerland selection made up of players from the clubs TSV Siegen, Sportfreunde Siegen, VfL-Klafeld-Geisweid and SV Netphen against the Jordanian national team , which ended in a 5-1 defeat for the Jordanians.
The athletics facilities are used by the gymnastics community Friesen Klafeld-Geisweid , the LAG Siegen and the Siegen Sentinels (American Football).
Construction project
The city has invested little in the facility since it was built in 1970, and it has become quite ailing over the past 40 years. One of the few investments on the part of the city, in addition to the construction of the natural grass pitch in 1974, was the installation of a loudspeaker system including a speaker booth in the summer of 1981, which was shut down after a short time because the permissible noise level was exceeded and has since been torn down, as well as the renewal of the running track in the middle of the 1990s.
A roofing 14 meters deep and 34 meters long had been approved for one of the sides of the grandstand since 2005, but this was not completed until January 2007. In addition to the roofing, the fence system on the top of the dam of the stadium was modernized, and the gate system of the marathon gate made burglar-proof, as vandalism damage had repeatedly occurred before . In a further construction phase, part of the standing steps on the back straight was later renewed, as these were extremely dilapidated and only temporarily cordoned off. Further modernization measures are also being planned. The Tennenplatz received an artificial turf surface for the anniversary year , and a new two-storey clubhouse was also built.
