The two Kirchweiler Hofgiebing and Grüngiebing are parts of the municipality of Obertaufkirchen . They are roughly in the middle between Schwindegg , Schwindkirchen and Oberornau in the Gattergebirge in the upper Rimbachtal or Mainbachtal. The two districts are only separated from each other by the Schlossberg ridge.

Hofgiebing

In the 33-inhabitant town, in which there is a restaurant, was formerly the seat of the Hofmark Hofgiebing . The Hofmarkschloss , which belonged to the elector chamberlain Franz Gustav Freiherr von Gobel auf Hofgiebing, among others, consisted of a gable roof and a half-hip roof structure (with ridge turrets). These were built side by side to one another. The property passed to Jakob von Frauenhofen, 1580 to the nobles of Haunsperg, 1620 to Duke Albrecht of Bavaria and 1627 to Friedrich von Hörwarth. By marriage, Hofgiebing then fell to the Fuggers, who owned it until 1804 and passed it on to Baroness von Moreau that year. In 1849 the small Renaissance castle was demolished, only the free-standing chapel is still preserved as a branch church . Filial church (former palace chapel) of St. John the Baptist

The late Gothic building, redesigned in Baroque style by Johann Philipp Wagner, a hall building with a retracted choir closed on three sides, had a Romanesque predecessor. Inside, rich stucco and choir altar in rococo style and ceiling frescoes from 1768 by Johann Michael Singer (Baptism of Christ, Last Supper). In 1986 a wall painting (sundial with angels and instruments of torture) was uncovered. A roof turret with a baroque onion hood is set in the west wall. Belongs to the parish of Obertaufkirchen.

Culture

In the Hofgiebinger Gasthaus Wörthmüller, the SG Oberornau eV regularly hosts plays. The inn is also the clubhouse of the local rifle club Rimbachquelle.

Grüngiebing

Not that much is known about the town with 38 inhabitants. The church of St. Margereth belongs to the parish of Schwindkirchen . The church belonged to the parish of Obertaufkirchen until 1878 and with it to 1817 to the diocese of Salzburg. The year the Gothic church was built is unknown. The rotunda was very popular in the 18th century and is based on early Baroque Italian models. The tower was re-listed in 1871. As a result of the secularization, candlesticks, canon tables, tabernacles and the evangelists are likely to have come to the church and represent special pieces of jewelry.
