The Hohe Aifner Spitze is a 2779 meter high mountain on the northern edge of the Kaunergrat in the Tyrolean Ötztal Alps . The mountain is shaped like a pyramid with three pronounced ridges. Due to its easy accessibility and the good panoramic view, it is a popular destination for mountain hikers.
Location and surroundings
Neighboring mountains are in the course of Nordgrats the 2,523 meter high Halsl , during the south-facing Hochschaltergrats the Falkauner Köpfle with 2,834 meters of altitude. The ( Niedere ) Aifnerspitze , 2558 m, is located on the northwest ridge . The northern tip of the actual Kaunergrat is bordered in the north at Wenns by the Pillertal and connects to the Venet massif via the saddle of the Pillerhöhe . In the east lies the Pitztal and in the west the Kaunertal . The place Kaunerberg is about 3½ kilometers crow southwest.
Tourist development
- From the Pitztal, the mountain can be reached via the upper Straßbergalpe and the Halsl via an insured trail (alpine experience required)
- Another route also leads from the Straßbergalpe over the Straßberger See (2132 m) directly up to the saddle north of the summit with a cross
- The Aifner Alpe to the west can also serve as a starting point for an ascent. It is a matter of traversing the Niederen Aifner Spitze with a tightrope walk to the main summit.
particularities
Because the Hohe Aifner Spitze is the first higher mountain on the ridge, seen from the north, there is an acute risk of weather changes on it . There is therefore a shelter at the transition between the high and low peaks.
