The Hohenzollernplatz is located in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf of the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in the north of Günzelkiezes . A square of the same name is located in the Berlin district of Nikolassee ( Steglitz-Zehlendorf ).

history

The square was named in 1901. It was named - like the Hohenzollerndamm flanking it  - after the German imperial family Hohenzollern . In 1910 it was upgraded to a symmetrical decorative square with a fountain and oak trees. The prestigious Hohenzollernplatz underground station was built by 1913 .

From 1930 the Protestant church on Hohenzollernplatz was built by Fritz Höger , the architect of the Chilehaus in Hamburg .

During the Second World War , the square and the church were damaged. The reconstruction lasted until 1950. The church has been a listed building since 1966 .

In 1968 the square was fundamentally redesigned, the dolphin fountain by Hans Bautz was created and the Hohenzollerndamm was expanded to make it suitable for cars .

Culture

Since 2010, the theater under the tower has had its venue in Düsseldorfer Straße in the immediate vicinity of the square with the striking church tower .

In addition to the Protestant congregation, the Chinese-Christian Congregation Berlin e. V. is at home.

There is a weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays .
