Holger Siever

Holger Siever (born December 21, 1960 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German translation and linguist . He is Professor of Translation Studies in the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FTSK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim . There he works in the department for Spanish and Portuguese language and culture.

Life and academic career

Holger Siever studied translation into Portuguese and Spanish from 1980 to 1986 at the Faculty of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FTSK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim . After graduating as a qualified translator, between 1987 and 2002 he received various teaching positions in the fields of intercultural communication and translation studies at the FTSK and in the specialist communication department of the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences .

In 2000 Siever did his doctorate with Heinz Göhring at the FTSK in Germersheim with the text Communication and Understanding. The Jenninger case as an example of a semiotic communication analysis . Since 2002 he has been a research assistant at the department for Spanish and Portuguese language and culture at the FTSK in Germersheim. In 2007 Siever was meanwhile a substitute professor for Spanish translation studies at the seminar for translation and interpreting (SUED) of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

In 2009 Sievers completed his habilitation at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT) at the University of Leipzig with the text Translate and Interpretation. The development of translation studies as an independent academic discipline in the German-speaking area in the period from 1960 to 2000 . In 2017 he was appointed adjunct professor in the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FTSK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim .

In addition to his research and teaching activities, Siever is also an exchange officer (for the Spain area ) and responsible for language certificates at the FTSK . Since 1986 he has also been working as a freelance translator with the working languages German , Spanish and Portuguese . His areas of expertise are economics , technology and IT .

Teaching

From 1987 to 1999, Holger Siever was a lecturer or at times research assistant at the FTSK in Germersheim . From 1999 to 2002 he was a lecturer at the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences . Since 2002 he has been teaching as a research assistant at the FTSK. Siever teaches in the areas of translation (in particular "Translation of business texts from Spanish to German" and "Translation of technical texts from Spanish to German"), translation studies and intercultural communication .

In addition to his teaching assignments at the FTSK and the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences , he also took on short-term lectureships at various universities abroad between 2005 and 2011:
