Holger Waldenberger

Holger Waldenberger (* 1967 ) is a German quiz player living in Hamburg . In 2012 he was the only German quiz European champion to date, won the Club European Championship with his team in 2017 and is multiple German champion. He is generally considered to be one of the best German quiz players.

Success in quizzes

Waldenberger has been taking part in the quiz world championship every year since 2009 and was the best German every time; only in 2014 he could not take part due to illness. Globally, Waldenberger landed in 2009 in 48th place, in 2010 in 24th place, in 2011 on place 22nd in 2012 he reached 13th place with almost 2,000 participants, in 2013 he landed on 24th place in 2015 with the fifth place worldwide best result. This was followed by 13th place in 2016, 12th in 2017, 22nd in 2018 and 36th in 2019.

In November 2012 he became the first German and second of three non-Englishmen to date in the European Quiz Championship, which is always played in English. In the doubles competition he achieved his best result to date with the Croatian Dorjana Širola with third place. In 2017 he was able to win the team competition of the European Championship with his team "Europalia", which consists of four nations - the other team members are Dorjana Širola (Croatia), Thomas Kolåsæter (Norway) and Derk De Graaf (Netherlands), after two second places in 2011 and 2012 and two third places in 2014 and 2015 with the same team. In 2018 “Europalia” came second again.

Waldenberger has only been participating in the German Quiz Championship since 2015. In 2015 and 2016 he won the championship title in the doubles competition together with his doubles partner, while he acted as the author of the questions in the singles and was therefore unable to participate. In his first individual participation in 2017, he immediately became German champion and in 2018 he was able to successfully defend his title. In 2019, he finished third in singles, just two points behind the winner, and won the title in doubles with Markus Solty. In 2020 he became German champion in the individual competition for the third time, took second place with Markus Solty in the double competition and also won the German buzz championship.

As the best German quiz player, Waldenberger is also a regular member of the German national quiz team at European and World Championships. a. together with Sebastian Klussmann , Sebastian Jacoby and Manuel Hobiger .

Television appearances
