Hollis Alpert

Hollis Alpert (born September 24, 1916 in Herkimer County , New York , † November 18, 2007 in Naples , Florida ) was an American film critic and author .

Life

Hollis Alpert, son of Abram and Myra Alpert, worked as a military historian for the US Army during World War II . From 1950 to 1956 he wrote for the New York Times . At the same time he wrote film reviews as a freelance writer for numerous publications.

Anne Clark, mother of the artist Gordon Matta-Clark , and Hollis Alpert married in 1950. The wife's name has been Anne Halpert since the marriage.

In 1966, Hollis Alpert founded the National Society of Film Critics in his New York apartment, along with other film critics . In the same year he was on the jury of the 16th Berlin International Film Festival . Alpert was also the editor of American Film Magazine for the American Film Institute .
