Hollman Felipe Morris (born August 17, 1968 in Bogotá , Colombia ) is a Colombian television journalist , documentary filmmaker and human rights activist . He is one of the most prominent human rights activists in his country.

Life

Hollman Morris was born in Bogota in 1968 and studied sociology and journalism at the Javeriana Pontifical University in Bogotá . He then worked as a reporter for various radio stations, such as Radio Santa Fe, before switching to television in 1996. There he was responsible for the overall direction of the weekly program " Contravia " (Against the Current). He also worked temporarily for other broadcasters abroad, such as the BBC , Channel 4 and Radio France Inter. He worked as an editor for the newspaper El Espectador . The 300 or so programs in his program are also considered to be an important contemporary archive of the civil war in Colombia.

Between 2000 and 2003 he lived in exile in Spain , from 2010 to 2011 again in exile, this time in the USA .

In February 2012, it was announced that Morris had been appointed Managing Director of Canal Capital television .

Act as a human rights activist

Morris is exposed to numerous hostilities, he received countless death threats, the Colombian secret service shadowed him, and attempts were made to call him a member of the FARC guerrilla . In countless articles and broadcasts, he showed the crimes that were carried out on all sides against the neutral civilian population: mass murders, kidnappings, expulsions, systematic intimidation. He does not stop at criticism of the Colombian state. In 2010 he documented everything in the documentary " Impunidad " (impunity). This film was shown on Arte . It is thanks to his insistence that some cases of human rights violations have been prosecuted.

In 2011 he received the International Nuremberg Human Rights Prize .
