history

The history of Holmes Chapel (whose part of the name Chapel means chapel ) is closely linked to the local parish church, which was mentioned as a subsidiary church of Sandbach as early as the 13th century . Your church book goes back to the year 1613.

In a fire in July 1753, the site, which then consisted of 19 buildings, was almost destroyed. Only the church, the pub and two cottages remained.

Holmes Chapel was also known as Hulme or Church Hulme in the 19th century . At first it was a district of Sandbach until it fell to the newly founded Civil Parish Church Hulme in 1866 . In addition to the village of Holmes Chapel, it included parts of the hamlet of Saltersford. In 1801 314 people lived in Church Hulme, 100 years later, after a steady increase, there were 1460 people.

On October 11, 1976 the Civil parish was renamed Holmes Chapel. On April 1, 1982, it expanded to include part of the Civil parish Cranage . It was the former Civil parish Cotton, which had belonged to Cranage since 1936.

The population and size of the place have increased continuously since its foundation, especially at the end of the 20th century, which was partly due to the good transport connections.
