Bessancourt is a French commune in the department of Val-d'Oise in the region of Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Argenteuil arrondissement and is part of the canton of Taverny . The place has 7,318 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The inhabitants are called Bessancourtois .

Bessancourt lies at the foot of the 22 square kilometer forest area Forêt de Montmorency . Bessancourt is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Frépillon in the north, Villiers-Adam in the northeast, Taverny in the southeast, Pierrelaye in the southwest and Méry-sur-Oise in the west.

The A115 car route runs through the municipality .
