Cormeilles-en-Parisis is a French commune with 24,161 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Val-d'Oise department , it is located in the northwestern outskirts of Paris . Cormeilles belongs to the Argenteuil arrondissement and is the administrative seat ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Franconville .
geography
Cormeilles-en-Parisis is located about 17 km northwest of Paris in the Montmorency Valley at the foot of the Buttes du Parisis , a forested range of hills.
The neighboring municipalities of Cormeilles-en-Parisis are Montigny-lès-Cormeilles and Franconville in the north, Sannois in the east, Argenteuil in the southeast, Sartrouville in the south and Maisons-Laffitte and La Frette-sur-Seine in the west.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, Cormeilles-en-Parisis was a small town with a population of between 1,550 (in 1793) and 2,654 (in 1901).
history
As early as 697 the place was named Cornioletus in a document of the Merovingian king Childebert III. and in 892 mentioned as Cormilias in the lists of the Abbey of Saint-Denis. A Gallo-Roman oppidum existed here as early as the third century .
The community was dominated by agriculture for centuries. After the Franco-Prussian War , the fortress of Cormeilles ( Fort de Cormeilles-en-Parisis ) was built from 1874 to 1877 . The castle was used as a backdrop in the movie The Night of the Generals .
