Location of the municipality of Rhauderfehn in the district of Leer

Holte has been part of the municipality of Rhauderfehn since the administrative and territorial reform of January 1, 1973 . Today 510 people live there. The scattered settlement is about three kilometers north of Westrhauderfehn , the main town of the East Frisian community. The 10.95 square kilometer district was founded on Pseudogley Gley soils.

Holte is said to have been the economic center of southern Overledingerland in the Middle Ages . This is concluded from the fact that the place had market rights. In the period that followed, the cattle and junk markets became particularly important for the surrounding region. In addition, possibly was on the Bietzebarg the 1,409 mentioned in the Holter Hamm Rich Volnesborch . The place name is first mentioned in 1599. It is derived from the Low German im Holte and means forest or wood .
