Holy Bandits is a music album by the British folk rock band Oysterband , which was released in 1993. Alongside The Shouting End of Life, it is their best known album.

In the USA the CD was released with a different cover, instead of the band members John Jones, Ray “Chopper” Cooper and Lee Partis part of the cover of the previous album “Deserters” could be seen. That part was not on the cover of the USA edition of “Deserters”.

The two single releases from Holy Bandits were the songs "Gone West" and "Cry Cry", with the US version of "Cry Cry" the tracks "Blood Wedding", "Bells Of Rhymney" and "Hangman Cry" being replaced by " After London "," The Star of the County Down "and" Curragh Of Kildare "have been replaced.

In 1997 “When I'm Up I Can't Get Down” was covered by the Canadian folk rock band Great Big Sea and became their biggest hit. Eleven years later, the Oyster band “When I'm Up I Can't Get Down” re-recorded for “The Oxford Girl And Other Stories” using only acoustic instruments.

Rick Anderson reported the following in his review on Allmusic.com :

"(...) Oysterband sounds like they've been given a blood transfusion on this album. (...) Holy Bandits proceeds from strength to strength with hardly a misstep. British folk-rock simply doesn't get any better than this. "

"(...) the Oysterband sounds like they had a blood transfusion for this album. (...) Holy Bandits is advancing with growing strength and hardly a misstep. British folk rock simply cannot be made better."
