Vincent Lamar Wilfork (* 4. November 1981 in Boynton Beach , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players, on the position of the nose tackles and defensive ends. He played for the New England Patriots and the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL). The 1.88 meter tall Wilfork has been elected to the Pro Bowl several times and won the Super Bowl twice ( XXXIX and XLIX ) with the New England Patriots .

Career

Wilfork graduated in Palm Beach County at the Santaluces High School his schooling and was talented in both the track and field as well as in American football. In college at the University of Miami , he played all positions (guard, tackle, center) in football on both the defensive line and the offensive line , plus running back and even as a punter . Back then, he hit over 20 meters in the shot put . At the NFL Combine , as a lineman weighing almost 150 kilograms, he managed a 40-yard sprint in a remarkable 5.08 seconds.

In the 2004 NFL Draft , Wilfork was selected by the New England Patriots as the 21st player and immediately played his way into the regular lineup of Head Coach Bill Belichick . As a nose tackle, Wilfork immediately managed 27 tackles and 15 tackle assists. Together with the experienced Keith Traylor , Wilfork secured the defense center and was part of the team that won the Super Bowl XXXIX against the Philadelphia Eagles with 24:21 under quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Deion Branch . He made 40 tackles each in 2005 and 2006, and when the Patriots won 18 straight games in 2007, he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time . The Super Bowl XLII was lost to the New York Giants .

In the years 2008 to 2010 Wilfork was part of the New England team, which always played at the top, but always failed in the play-offs . Due to his consistently good performance, Wilfork was elected to the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010 (31 tackles in 13 games and 46 tackles in 16 games). The 2010 award was notable in that it was the first time Wilfork played Defensive End instead of Defensive / Nose Tackle.

In 2011 Wilfork played Nose Tackle again and was productive again with 29 tackles, 23 tackle assists and 3.5 sacks . Wilfork was re-elected to the Pro Bowl. The 2013 season ended prematurely because Wilfork suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon . In the following season 2014, Wilfork made it back into the starting line-up, managed a game-winning interception against the Oakland Raiders and blocked a field goal attempt by the New York Jets . He helped the Patriots reach the play-offs with 12: 4 wins, and won the Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks with 28:24. After that, Wilfork was fired from the Patriots and joined the Houston Texans . With the Texans, Wilfork reached the play-offs again, but failed in the first round.

Private life

Wilfork has a degree in liberal arts . His wife Bianca is also his manager. They have three children together and she has another child from a previous relationship. They met through an online dating site when he was in college. Bianca, who was a single parent at the time, initially had little interest in her “completely overweight” suitor before she noticed that he was untypically familiar for a football player and that he took his studies seriously.

Wilfork's parents Barbara and David Wilfork died within half a year of stroke and diabetes , respectively , while he was in college. Wilfork is committed to the fight against diabetes. He has an older brother.
