The Honda de México SA de CV is a company incorporated in September 1985 a subsidiary of the Japanese Honda -Konzerns with headquarters in El Salto , Jalisco , Mexico . In addition to the sale of Honda products, an independent production is operated.

Company history

The main factory in El Salto

The main plant in El Salto covers an area of ​​2.7 million square meters. Around 260 million US dollars were raised for the construction of the plant from 1986 onwards. Production started in 1988. The CBR100 was the company's first product to roll off the assembly line . About 1,000 people were employed at that time. The maximum production capacity was 50,000 units per year. At the same time, metal parts of the Civic for the automobile production of Honda of America Mfg. and the Honda of Canada Manufacturing .

In 1984 construction work began on a plant expansion. From 1995 the 5th generation Accord was built in the new department . The annual capacity increased to 200,000 units. The number of employees also increased to around 2,800. Production of the 6th generation started two years later in 1997. In summer 1999 the company started exporting its products. In June 2002 the factory started production of the C 100 Biz . In the same year, the seventh generation of the Accord came on the market, but assembly in Mexico did not start until 2004.

On the occasion of the start of production of the new BEAT100 in February 2004 , the export of the Accord to Argentina was started. In addition, vehicle components and spare parts for the Acura RL have been manufactured since December .

When production of the Accord ended in 2007, it was finally replaced by the 3rd generation CR-V . The 4th generation of the CR-V has been manufactured in El Salto since January 2012.

The Guadalajara motorcycle factory

In Guadalajara , the company opened a second plant parallel to the main plant. Here, too, production began in the course of 1988. The CH80 was built in the second plant, which was replaced by the ACTIVA in April 2004 . From July 2005 the C90 was also produced. Due to insufficient demand, Honda decided to close the plant in 2009.

The Celaya car plant

Another plant of the manufacturer has been in the construction phase since autumn 2011. At the Celaya site in the state of Guanajuato , production of the Fit is to start according to previous information . An investment of 800 million US dollars is planned for the construction of the plant. Up to 3,200 people are to be employed on the 5.66 million square meter site. The maximum annual capacity of the plant will be 200,000 units.

In the vehicle identification number , the company uses the world manufacturer codes 3CZ for motorcycles and sport utility vehicles, 3H1 for scooters and 3HG for passenger cars. The letter G for El Salto is used as the factory code . The letter D is in use for Guadalajara .
