The Honda of America Mfg., Inc. in Marysville, Ohio

The Honda of America Mfg., Inc. (the abbreviation Mfg stands for Manufacturing ) is a subsidiary of the Japanese Honda Giken Kōgyō Kabushiki-gaisha based in Marysville , Ohio . The company was founded in February 1978, and is in addition to the assembly of automobiles as engine manufacturers operate. The own production of motorcycles has meanwhile been given up. A total of around 9200 employees work for the company in three, previously four, branches.

The main plant located in Marysville, which started operations in November 1982, is also often referred to as the Marysville Auto Plant due to its location . Around 4400 people are employed here. Honda had invested a sum of 4 billion US dollars to build the plant . The company premises currently cover an area of 324,000 square meters. Around 440,000 vehicles are assembled here annually for the North American market. In addition to Honda, models from the luxury Acura brand are also completed here.

history

The first model to be built in Marysville was the Honda Accord , which rolled off the assembly line here as a sedan, wagon, hatchback and coupé. Honda then established the Acura Vigor as a luxury model of the same construction , followed by the Acura CL and the Acura TL . The Acura RDX has also been assembled here for a few years . The Accord was largely outsourced to other plants in 2008, so that only the Coupé model is a product of the plant.

Honda had already established its first local subsidiary in Marysville in 1978 with the so-called Marysville Motorcycle Plant , where it was dedicated to the manufacture of motorcycles. When the new company was founded, the existing plant was simply incorporated there. The two models Honda Gold Wing and the Honda Magna were manufactured here for a long time . In the spring of 2009, however, Honda moved motorcycle production for the North American markets to Japan . Around 450 workers lost their jobs as a result of this relocation.

The company then set up its second office in the mid-1980s with an investment of 1.7 billion US dollars in the small town of Anna . 2400 people work on the 162,000 square meter site. Four- cylinder and V6 engines for various vehicle models are manufactured here. But drive shafts , crankshafts , brake systems , camshafts and cylinder liners are also produced in Anna. The plant produces 1,180,000 engines annually for local and surrounding markets.

The company's second auto plant was built in East Liberty with an investment of $ 1.1 billion . Around 2,400 people are employed in the plant. Work started in December 1989. The company premises here cover an area of 171,000 square meters. The main product of the plant is the Honda Civic . In 2002 Honda added the Honda Element to the program, which is built here both as a left-hand drive and with a right-hand drive for the export market. It wasn't until 2007 that two more models were added: the Honda CR-V and the Honda FCX Clarity . The latest model from the plant, however, is the Honda Accord Crosstour, introduced in 2009 .
