The Honda Accord is a mid-size car from the Japanese car manufacturer Honda . The sixth generation appeared on the German market in autumn 1998 and was sold until autumn 2002.
limousine
The sixth generation of the Accord sedan was offered by Honda in different markets in different versions, which can be distinguished by the design of the rear side windows. In Japan, the sedan appeared in 1997 together with its sister model, the Honda Torneo. Compared to the other versions, it had the shortest wheelbase , the narrowest track width and also the narrowest body . There was a station wagon for this, the Accord Wagon, which was only offered in Japan.
A year later, the Accord's North American sedan came out. It had the largest wheelbase, the largest body and track width, because here a V6 engine was installed again, which, apart from the North American coupé version, was only used in Australia and New Zealand. This “big” Accord limousine was also offered with 4-cylinder engines in non-Japanese Asia.

Europe
The European Accord limousine was also sold in the Arab world. However, the range in this region was limited to a model with 1.8 and 2.0 l displacement and the Type R (sports version). Only in Europe was an almost identical, five-door variant of the Accord that was similar to the sedan from 1999 onwards. With the exception of the 1.6-liter engine, all engines work with VTEC technology. There was also a turbo-diesel unit purchased from Rover . The equipment lines were staggered in S (ABS, four airbags, electric immobilizer, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, front electric windows and height-adjustable driver's seat), LS (in addition to S rear electric windows, manual air conditioning and central locking with remote control) and ES (additionally to LS cruise control, leather steering wheel, glass sunroof, automatic air conditioning, BOSE sound system, electrically adjustable driver's seat, light metal rims, headlight washers and exterior mirrors / door handles painted in body color). There was also a special "Motegi" model, which was based on the lowest equipment line and had a different gear knob, radiator grille with a honeycomb structure and a badge on the B-pillar.
Hatchback
Based on the European Accord sedan, a five-door hatchback model was created from autumn 1999 onwards , which Honda delivered exclusively to Europe. While the diesel engine was only available in combination with a manual 5-speed gearbox, the other engines could also be combined with a four-speed automatic.
Coupe
In the spring of 1998, Honda added a two-door coupé to the Accord range. B. not in Japan - was offered. Like its predecessor, the vehicle was made by Honda of America Mfg. developed in the USA and also built exclusively there.
The shortened chassis of the North American sedan served as the basis of the coupé. Three different engines were installed depending on the sales area - all with VTEC technology. While in North America and the Arab world the basic model had a 2.3-liter engine, the corresponding European version had a 2.0-liter engine. The top model worldwide was the coupé with the 3.0-liter V6 engine of the Acura CL . In this regard, the coupe can be seen as the successor to the Legend Coupe . The V6 unit was delivered exclusively with a 4-speed automatic, while the other models could also be ordered with a manual 5-speed gearbox.
wagon
A large station wagon was only offered in Japan on the basis of the Japanese sedan under the name Accord Wagon. Initially, the Accord Wagon was only equipped with a 2.3-ll SOHC engine with VTEC technology. From 1999, a 2.3-liter DOHC unit - also with VTEC technology - was added. This was associated with considerably more power, which was underlined by a correspondingly sporty-looking spoiler on the body. Each of these variants could also be ordered with all-wheel drive ( RT4WD ). In the course of an insignificant facelift in 2000, the top model was given "SiR" with even sportier equipment and more conspicuous spoilers, which should justify the additional designation "Sportier". The Accord Wagon was delivered exclusively with a 4-stage automatic.
