The Honda Accord is a mid-size passenger car from the Japanese car manufacturer Honda . The fifth generation appeared on the German market in spring 1993 and was sold until autumn 1998.
limousine
The fifth generation of the Accord limousine presented itself in the various regional markets in a variety like no other Honda. Clear differences can be seen both technically and in the external design.
In Japan, the new Accord sedan, with a more sporty design than the previous models, did not appear until autumn 1993 - a few months later than the European version.
The vehicle was initially launched in this form in North America and outside of Europe. It differed from the Japanese sedan only in terms of equipment. However, that changed in 1994 when a V6 engine was also offered in North America. This engine required more space in the engine compartment, so the front end had to be raised. The fenders, bonnet, grille and bumper were modified, and the body grew a few inches in length. A sister model of the Honda Accord sold in Japan and the USA was the visually very similar Rover 600 .
Europe
The new Accord sedan of the 1993 model year built in Europe looked completely different. It was not based on the Japanese Accord limousine, but on the Ascot Innova. And initially only powerful engines with a displacement of 2.0 and 2.3 liters were installed. A 1.8-liter engine was only available for the entry-level model from autumn 1995.
With the revision at the beginning of 1996, which mainly led to a modified front section, the 2.3-liter DOHC engine disappeared from the range. However, it was replaced by a similarly powerful 2.2-liter VTEC engine. At the same time, Honda offered a diesel engine for the first time . Honda bought the turbocharged unit from Rover . A facelift of all versions of the sedan at the beginning of 1996 brought the appearance back into line, at least with regard to the radiator grille.
Coupe
In the spring of 1994, Honda added a two-door coupé to the Accord model range.
The vehicle was developed in the USA and also built exclusively there. The basis of the coupé was the Japanese version of the Accord sedan. Four different engines were installed depending on the sales area. VTEC technology found its way into Japan and North America .
Aerodeck
In the summer of 1994, Honda added a spacious station wagon to the Accord model range. The vehicle was developed in the USA and also built exclusively there. The model came to Europe under the name Accord Aerodeck, while for the rest of the world it was called the Accord Wagon. As with the coupé, the station wagon is based on the Japanese sedan. Outside of Europe, the wagon was only available with the 2.2-liter engine with and without VTEC technology. Only in Europe was a 2.0-liter engine offered in addition to the 2.2-liter unit, although the larger engine was discontinued in early 1996.
